Kesar Baug Trust was established on 15th January 1934, by a lady named Kesar bai. She was the widow of Rajan Jooma bhai. Request to please recite a Sura Fateha for the departed Soul.
Kesar Bai purchased a plot of Land in Dongri, Mumbai with the intention of using the land for community azadari and religious programs. Dongri in those days was the epi centre of Shia community religious and social activities.
This Land was primarily used for Azadari activities. It was also used by children of the area as a playground when it was not used for Azadari or religious programmes.
After India got it Independence, 0n 5th November 1952, the Kesar Baug Trust was formally registered as a Trust. It is one of the earliest Shia Community Islamic and Charitable Trusts to be set up in India after its Independence in 1947.
Kesar Baug Hall which subsequently built on the parcel of land donated by Kesar Bai Jooma Rajan remains one of the main places where Azadari majlis, mataam, juloos and other religious activities happen every year. Over a period of time the Kesar Baug Hall has also been used for holding various programs of religious, education and social nature. The Hall is also used for community marriages and social functions.

Kesar Bai purchased a plot of Land in Dongri, Mumbai for Rs 20,000, with the intention of using the land for community azadari and religious programs. Dongri in those days was the epi centre of Shia community religious and social activities. She additionally contributed Rs 10,000 towards the corpus of the Trust for construction of a building on the said land and committed another Rs 10,000 from her estate after her death to be added to the Trust Corpus for the said purpose.

Service
Higher Education support.
Through its Higher Education Support program, the Kesar Baug Trust has provided opportunities to thousand of students to complete their higher education. The two main objectives of the Higher Education support program are :
- Aid in the development of the community’s next generation with proper education and helping them achieve life skills and equal opportunities to rise higher in professional fields.
- Provide an opportunity to the youth of our community to break free from the cycle of poverty and deprivation. Good College and Professional education opens up avenues for earning a decent livelihood and over a period of 1-2 decades will equip them with means to pull their entire family out of their current lives of poverty and deprivation.
History
Many of these students have become successful in their careers and have also pulled their families from poverty cycles towards economic prosperity. A Brief 5 year overview is of work done in this area is given :
During 2020-21 and 2021-22, due to pressure on the Trusts Income, the support for this program could not be adequately provided. However from 2022-23 onwards the Higher Education programs are back on track and over 500 students are expected to benefit from this program in 2022-23
Higher Education Scholarship.
Kesar Baug Trust has been providing scholarships to community students for pursuing their higher education (college, diploma or other professional course). It has supported thousands of community students over the last 4 decades, with their education fees.
Medical aid
Kesar Baug Trust has also provided support to people from our community who are not covered by any kind of medical insurance, with part of their emergency medical expenses.
Higher Education Loan.
In recent years Kesar Baug Trust set up a program to evaluate and support bright and deserving students from the community with interest free education loans which are repaid by the student’s family / student over an agreed period of time. This program has helped dozens of students to pursue specialised professional courses both in India and overseas which otherwise would have remained out of reach.
Relief for the poor
Kesar Baug Trust has also supported various programs for relief for the poor sections of the community. In recent times (especially during the Covid period and its difficult aftermath), the Trust supported various programs to provide relief to affected families, including providing temporary ration, medical and rent support to affected families.
